SUMMARY:Representation in News Graphics
LOCATION:ZEIT Online\, Askanischer Platz 1\, 10963\, Berlin
DESCRIPTION:Yes\, we're back! In an attempt to revive the Data Viz Meetup Berlin since Betahaus closed its door at its old location\, we'll meet a bit further west: The nice peeps from ZEIT Online let us use their event space.\n\nWhat?\n---------------------------------\nThis time\, we'll talk about how data visualization can help us to represent people in all their diversity and nuances. Since this is a blurry topic\, Lisa (that's me) will give a short introduction to the issue and what some data viz people have said about it so far.\n\nWho?\n---------------------------------\nWe're happy to announce three speaker groups:\n\nZeit Online's Data Viz people will talk about their project "The New Colors of Europe" (https://www.zeit.de/politik/ausland/2019-07/european-election-municipalities-eu-states-results-analysis-map)\, which is their in-depth coverage of the 2019 EU election.\n\nMarie-Louise Timcke (and maybe one of her colleagues) from Funke Interaktiv talks about how they simultaneously covered the elections on a local level for the different regions of several local newspapers in Germany.\n\nCherian Grundmann will talk about "Nationalism and Dataviz - How popular media routinely fails to represent EU citizens"\, with a focus on the 2019 EU elections. He's the founder of OneEurope\, an international digital magazine\, in order to accelerate the development of cross-European awareness and identity.\n\nAs always\, if you have announcements to share\, you can also do so at the end of the meetup.\n\nWhere?\n---------------------------------\nZEIT Online! It's very\, very close to the S-Bahn station "Anhalter Bahnhof". Exit there\, then look for a ground-level corner of a building that's completely out of glass. You'll find a glass door to this glass room. That's where we'll be.\n\nWe're very much looking forward to seeing you there!
